Omagh events will celebrate literature in Northern Ireland

11 September 2009 -

Omagh will celebrate the life of one of the finest contributors to literature in Northern Ireland this weekend, when a tribute to Benedict Kielty takes place.

A host of events in Northern Ireland have been arranged to honour Kielty, who died in 2007 and whose works include the 1946 classic Land Without Stars.

The festivities will begin on Friday evening, when the Strule Arts Centre will play host to the art exhibition Honey Seems Bitter, which will be curated by Terry Sweeney.

On Saturday (September 12th), a full day of literary events in Northern Ireland will take place, including the Omagh's Literary Heritage seminar by Dr Eamonn Hughes.

Finally on Sunday, the weekend will be rounded off with a number of writing workshops being held to discover the next big name in literature in Northern Ireland.

In other news, the Pogues Entry venue in Antrim recently staged An Evening With Great Irish Writers on September 7th, an event which took attendees on a journey through the history of poetry and novels in the country.ADNFCR-1859-ID-19356386-ADNFCR
