Northern Irish cheese 'a hit in the US'

24 December 2008 -

Travellers keen to sample good-quality food in Northern Ireland may want to try the Fivemiletown Creamery's Oakwood Smoked Cheddar, which is to be sold by the world's biggest retailer, the Fermanagh Herald reports.

Sam's Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, has ordered 2,800 deli wheels of the cheese and plans to put them on sale in March.

The product is also available in ASDA supermarkets across Northern Ireland, meaning travellers can enjoy this fine example of cheddar.

Shawn Balwin, vice president of merchandising at the US retailer, told the news provider the cheese is of the highest calibre.

"This Irish cheddar is one of the best gourmet cheeses available, and we continue to see increasing demand from our members in the United States for fine foods like this to be incorporated into other dishes as an appetiser," he said.

Fivemiletown Creamery was established in 1898 and is located in County Tyrone.
