Musical talent gathers for new year in Belfast

10 December 2008 -

Belfast will come alight with music this New Year's Eve as the city hosts a big concert with Northern Ireland's top talent.

Supergrass and the Pigeon Detectives will be joined on stage by home-grown talent General Fiasco, Fighting With Wire and Universal Remedy at the Rock the Hall concert in the City Hall.

Local TV and radio presenter Ralph McLean will compere the event, with tickets due to go on sale this Thursday for £5.

The concert is likely to be popular so tickets are being limited to ten per booking.

Lord mayor of Belfast councillor Tom Hartley described the line-up as "exciting", saying it is the best place to see in the new year.

Mark Mahaffy, managing director of Cool FM/Downtown Radio, which is sponsoring of the event, says: "The line-up should attract a lot of people into the city centre and we're looking forward to helping to entertain the crowds. It's a really exciting time for Belfast and we look forward to a great 2009."

Those looking for musical entertainment in Belfast next year can catch Cliff Richard when he performs with The Shadows in September.ADNFCR-1859-ID-18921112-ADNFCR
