Michael Connelly unveils new novel

8 April 2009 -

Holidaymakers interested in literature in Northern Ireland will be able to catch best-selling crime novelist Michael Connelly give a reading of his latest novel in Belfast next month.

The multi-award winner, who has Edgar, Anthony and Macavity gongs to his name, will read from The Scarecrow and take part in a question and answer session with members of the public at the Belfast Waterfront on May 15th.

David Torrans, owner of crime fiction bookstore No Alibis, told Culture in Northern Ireland that Connelly is one of the few writers able to combine all the different elements of the crime fiction genre - from the hard-boiled police investigation novel to the psychological thriller.

"He manages to capture all the disparate characteristics of the genre and put them together into a finely-crafted product at the end of it all," commented Mr Torrans.

Prior to Connelly's reading, stand-up star Lucy Porter will perform at the Belfast Waterfront on May 9th, showcasing her brand of stripped-down philosophical comedy.
