Maze 'exposed in Belfast'

9 April 2009 -

Photographer Donovan Wylie will showcase his photo essay of the famous Maze prison in Lisburn at Belfast Exposed this month.

Holidaymakers looking for attractions in Northern Ireland will be able to catch the exhibition from now until May 1st.

The work focuses on the demolition process at the jail and the way in which the empty buildings eventually became integrated into the local environment.

Wylie told Culture in Northern Ireland that he was "gobsmacked" by the scale of the 360-acre site.

He added: "It was relentlessly repetitive and had a very disorientating effect on me.

"It was intentionally designed to do that and I thought that here was an opportunity to make a piece of work that could be historical, important, relevant."

Photography fans can also visit the Tower Museum in Londonderry, also known as Derry, which has an exhibition entitled Down Memory Lane, depicting the lives of people growing up in Northern Ireland during the 50s and 60s.
