Lisburn Purple Turnip festival kicks off in style

26 October 2009 -

Lisburn's historic Purple Turnip festival has kicked off, with a number of spectacular events in Northern Ireland planned to celebrate community spirit and showcase the city.

A range of activities are being held between now and November 20th, with local performers and entertainers hosting activities such as free dance classes, drama sessions, cookery demonstrations and the legendary Purple Turnip Hunt.

The hunt lasts until November 5th and will see ten purple turnips hidden in shop windows throughout the town centre, with tourists and locals challenged to find at least six of them to be in with a chance of winning prizes.

Another highlight of the Purple Turnip festivities will be a dance in the park, on November 8th in the Castle Gardens, which will see revellers moving to the beat of music in Northern Ireland.

Those travelling to Lisburn to take part in the Purple Turnip events will now be able to stay in new accommodation in Northern Ireland, as the city's first hotel, the Premier Inn hotel and Linen House restaurant, is now open.ADNFCR-1859-ID-19425764-ADNFCR
