Balloo House in Killinchy, County Down, has won the Ireland Guide's Georgina Campbell Pub of the Year Award for 2009, meaning those travelling in the country can experience one of the delightful pubs in Northern Ireland.
The establishment was taken over in 2004 by Ronan and Jennie Sweeney, who both brought years of hospitality industry experience to the project.
Following the transaction, the Sweeney's embarked on a mission to make Balloo House one of the finest pubs in Northern Ireland and restore the old coaching inn's former glory.
Their hard work has been recognised by the Georgina Campbell award, with the establishment praised for its "excellent bistro fare", "oodles of genuine character" and "outstanding fine dining restaurant".
Summing up, the critics said the team has done a wonderful job, serving some of the best food in Northern Ireland.
"Overall, the lovely relaxed ambience and outstanding food at very reasonable prices are a credit to all involved, and the growing reputation of this fine old inn is well earned," the reviewers claim.
Balloo House has also won a place in Bridgestone Ireland's Top 100 Restaurants 2008 and the Independent's 50 Best Sunday Lunches.
