Kids to enjoy classical music performances

27 April 2009 -

Families looking for events celebrating music in Northern Ireland will be able to see a matinee performance by the Ulster Orchestra at the city’s university on May 1st.

The performance will be light-hearted and tailored to the tastes of children, with music from Wallace and Gromit, The Lion King, ET and Dr Who.

Youngsters will be able to display their skills by joining in with a few simple parts.

Colin Stark, an Ulster Orchestra oboe player, will present the hour-long show, while trombone player Stephen Barnett will conduct the performance.

The event is open to members of the public and the concert programme has been selected to appeal to a wide range of children and young people, while the set has been designed to have broader popular appeal.

Today, the University of Ulster choir is performing at St. Anne's Cathedral and the group will go on to sing at St. Patrick's Church in Londonderry, also known as Derry, on April 28th and St. Michael's Church in Enniskillen on May 5th.
