Giant's Causeway named one of UK's 'natural wonders'

9 February 2009 -

The Giant's Causeway, one of the biggest attractions in Northern Ireland, has been named as one of the UK's seven natural wonders in a new poll.

In a survey of 4,000 Britons by TV channel Eden, the beautiful site, located on the north coast of County Antrim, came in fourth in the list of the most spectacular scenes in the UK.

The Lake District was named as the top destination, followed by the Scottish Highlands and Cheddar Gorge in Somerset.

Adrian Wills, the head of the TV channel, said the Giant's Causeway is one of a number of natural wonders across the world.

"The world has some stunning natural wonders and we are delighted that on Eden we can honour the best all seven continents have to offer," he stated.

In other news, environment minister Sammy Wilson recently gave the green light for the development of a new visitor centre at the Giant's Causeway.
