Festival of Fun back in Belfast

27 March 2009 -

Belfast's Festival of Fools will return to the city from April 30th to May 4th.

Street entertainers, including circus acts, puppet shows, comedians and jugglers, will perform throughout the capital.

The event's centrepiece will be a giant maze located in the grounds of City Hall, through which members of the public will be guided by an array of surreal comic characters.

Opening the festival will be a solo rendition of Don Quixote featuring a fire-breathing mechanical horse, with other performers throughout the six days of fun including hula-hooping budget airline stewardesses, a spoof Victorian freakshow and acrobatic musical comedians.

All shows during the event are free and visitors to the city during the period looking to enjoy attractions in Northern Ireland are encouraged to make donations, which will go towards paying the artists and organising next year's event.

Last year, over 100 performers took to the streets of Belfast during the festival.
