Elusive artist to unveil music in Northern Ireland

25 June 2009 -

Mysterious music man Jandek will tour Northern Ireland for the first time ever next month.

The elusive and charismatic star has built up a worldwide following by releasing more than 50 albums, while ignoring the mainstream in refusing to do interviews, photographs, tours or put out singles.

The Texan's Northern Ireland roadshow will be his first full tour, although Janek has performed one-off gigs since his first concert in Glasgow in 2004.

Organised in conjunction with two local independent record labels, Five Minute Association and Dead Slack String Recordings, the tour will take in Larne on July 19th, Bangor the following day, Belfast on July 21st and Derry on the 22nd.

Dead Slack String owner James Rider told Culture in Northern Ireland: "These are venues and towns that often get missed on musicians' usual routes, so it's good to be able to bring someone as unusual as Jandek to Northern Ireland. Basically, we're trying to take an offbeat musician off the beaten track."

From July 15th to 19th fans of music in Northern Ireland will be able to see performers from all over the world as part of the Celtic Fusion Music and Arts Festival at Newcastle.
