Following the success of Culture Night in some of the Republic of Ireland's biggest cities, the event is to be extended to encompass regions of Northern Ireland in 2009.
Galleries, theatres, museums and parks in Galway, Limerick, Dublin, Cork and Waterford all opened their doors to the public until 23:00BST on September 19th.
Some 20,000 people took advantage of this offer and it is hoped that from next year a greater number of individuals in more towns and cities can enjoy the festivities.
Arts, Sport and Tourism minister Martin Cullen told the Dail that plans are being discussed which would extend the event to Northern Ireland and other towns in the Republic, reports the Herald.
Meanwhile, this month, St George's Market in Belfast is set to host the Opportunity European event which will bring drama, art, quizzes and food to the city.
It will be held between October 21st and 22nd, with more than 40 exhibitors attending.
