'Classic comedy' set for Newcastle return

9 July 2009 -

Award-winning drama group the Belvoir Players are set to return to Newcastle in County Down this weekend (July 10th and 11th) to perform a classic summer comedy for fans of theatre events in Northern Ireland.

Strictly for the Birds tells the story of the Glovers, a Belfast family, whose simple life of domestic bliss is turned upside down when they discover they share a sweepstake that has drawn the favourite in an upcoming horse race and are likely to win a large sum of money.

As the play races along to the inevitable conclusion, audiences will be treated to a hilarious evening of comedy and mayhem.

The play will initially be put on at the Newcastle Centre, Central Promenade, Newcastle County Down, this weekend and later this summer at a variety of venues throughout Northern Ireland.

Also this weekend in Newcastle, the Summer Days events on the Prom will take place, featuring circus entertainment such as mini-cycling, balloon modelling, magic and juggling on the promenade.

Earlier this week, Newcastle was named the best kept town in all of Ireland.
