Belfast lord mayor to tweet events in Northern Ireland

The lord mayor of Belfast has joined micro-blogging website Twitter and will update people on which events in Northern Ireland she is attending.

Naomi Long has joined the site so citizens and tourists can keep track of which attractions in Northern Ireland she is going to and follow suit.

"It is vital that we keep up with current trends of communication and already I've been encouraged by the number of followers who are interested in hearing about what it's like to be Belfast's lord mayor," she explained.

Ms Long will also be writing a weekly blog on the Belfast City Council website, where people can follow her activities in Northern Ireland's capital.

One of the recent events in Northern Ireland attended by the mayor was the unveiling of a mural at the Belfast Botanic Gardens which highlights the beautiful nature in the city and promotes it as an exciting destination for travellers.
