Belfast boxer's title shot

9 January 2009 -

Belfast fighter Martin Rogan could return to the city a hero next month after he secured a shot at the Commonwealth title held by European champion Matt Skelton.

The pair will go head-to-head at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on February 28th and the belt holder is not taking his opponent lightly.

Last month, Rogan successfully dismantled Audley Harrison and the champion knows the Belfast brawler will give him a tough test.

"Rogan is a dangerous fighter and I was impressed by the way in which he dug deep against Harrison. Anyone with an undefeated record is a threat because they don't know how to lose," he said.

He is not the only fighter from Northern Ireland competing for a championship belt this year, as boxing fans will have the chance to see Martin Lindsay go tow-to-tow with British featherweight belt holder Paul Appleby at Belfast's Ulster Hall in March.
