Belfast City Hall hosts multicultural events in Northern Ireland

29 October 2009 -

Belfast's historic City Hall is currently hosting a number of spectacular multicultural events in Northern Ireland following its £11 million transformation.

The city has been celebrating its cultural diversity by hosting two weeks of activities in double celebration of Diwali and Samhain.

Events in Northern Ireland's capital including dances and historical reenactments are taking place at City Hall to mark the two festivals, which celebrate Hinduism and the Celtic tradition respectively.

The Times of India describes the modern meaning of Diwali as "a reaffirmation of hope, a renewed commitment to friendship and goodwill, and a religiously-sanctioned celebration of the simple and some not-so-simple joys of life" and the festival has seen hundreds of spectators descend on the City Hall.

On November 4th, a symposium taking place at the venue will see attendees looking into Belfast's history and attempting to understand the events leading up to its formation as the 400th anniversary of the area becoming a city approaches.ADNFCR-1859-ID-19432897-ADNFCR
