Ballymena 'to offer history exhibitions'

27 February 2009 -

History buffs may want to head to Ballymena for their Easter holiday, where Mid-Antrim Museum will exhibit World War II memorabilia and re-enactments from April 11th to 14th.

Visitors are encouraged to come along with their family over the Easter weekend to see wartime characters brought to life in specially-commissioned performances.

They will also be able to find out more about the life of an infantry soldier, handle military hardware from days gone by and peruse the museum's galleries.

Funded by the Big Lottery's Their Past Your Future programme, the War Years Remembered exhibit is also supported by Ballymena Community History Partnership.

Last week, tourism minister Arlene Foster stated that the Northern Ireland executive has set a target of attracting 2.5 million visitors to the nation by 2011, increasing tourism revenue to £520 million.

Addressing the annual Northern Ireland Tourist Board Visitor Servicing Conference at the Lough Erne Golf Resort in Enniskillen, she added that the country has a great deal to offer tourists.
