The Sperrin Mountains

As one of the largest and least explored mountain range in Northern Ireland, the Sperrins in County Tyrone provide a breathtaking backdrop to many indoor and outdoor pursuits. Their windswept hills with yellow bloom of gorse provide the perfect setting for any walkers interested in exploring the surrounding areas. These include sparse highlands and lush river valleys with an abundance of beautiful places to camp.

From June onwards, hill walking festivals prove very popular in the area and also in the summer season the Sperrins are popular with both game and coarse anglers.

The mountainous trails around the Sperrins are the perfect location to indulge in mountain biking. Other outdoor activities to participate in include golf, paintballing, and a variety of watersports.

The Sperrins also attract gold prospectors, archaeologists and even gliders. The Ulster Gliding Club takes full advantage of the swirling air currents above Magilligan Point.

Complete your Northwest experience with a trip to the Ulster American Folk Park and trace the story of Northern Ireland's emigration across the Atlantic.
