The North-East

What other coast has more drama, history or mystery?

The North EastTowering cliffs encircle Antrim, meeting at Fair Head, an eerie tableland steeped in mist and legend.  The Glens were isolated before the twisting coast road was built, and there's still a sense of a world apart in the quaint villages scented with turf fires. But the friendliness is infectious, festivals last days, so why not linger longer?

Travelling west, pass tantalising glimpses of ruined castles, indigo sea, Scotland and Rathlin Island. Leave the car, catch the ferry and enjoy the birdlife. Or, dare you cross the rope bridge swinging high above crashing waves at Carrick-a-Rede?  The Giants Causeway, sculpted by Finn McCool, is one of the world's wonders, with hexagonal basalt columns like immense organpipes.

Boasting brilliant Blue Flag beaches; Antrim is watersports heaven; bucket & spade to scuba and surfing.  Resorts range from buzzing Portrush to genteel Portballintrae or tiny Ballintoy tucked beneath the cliffs.

There's plenty on, including the North West 200 Motorcycle race and the Seniors at legendary Royal Portrush Golf Course.
