Luxury South-West
Imagine breathing in fresh air and peaceful tranquillity on the serene waters of Upper Lough Erne. A cruiser would be perfect, especially with an ice cold Champagne picnic! A short boat trip can be taken to Devenish Island with its ruined abbey, or the magnificent underworld of the Marble Arch Caves which reveals a magnificent and extensive network of limestone caverns, some traversable by boat.
For the energetic, Fermanagh’s lakes are the perfect location for waterskiing or jet skiing, while a more sedate afternoon might include a private tour of lavish gardens not normally open to the public, but which can be organised for special guests.
Along with Belle Isle and Crom Castle, some of Ireland’s finest stately homes are located in County Fermanagh, including the privately owned Ashbrooke and Colebrooke estates. The National Trust maintains exceptional properties including Castle Coole, the neo-classical seat of the Earls of Belmore which has an opulent Regency interior complete with the State Bedroom prepared for George IV, and the classical Florence Court, former home of the Earls of Enniskillen which has many family heirlooms set amid exquisite rococo plasterwork.
For the more energetic, the Nick Faldo designed golf course at the luxurious Lough Erne Golf Resort will be a ‘must play’ for golf enthusiasts. In neighbouring Tyrone, a trip to the Ulster American Folk Park is a fantastic opportunity to discover the history of emigration to America. Costumed attendants in this ‘living museum’ demonstrate everyday tasks in authentically furnished Old and New World buildings.
Keeping in with the aristocratic style, St. Angelo airport just outside Enniskillen ensures that visitors can arrive in style by either private jet or helicopter, both of which can be easily arranged.
